“Trial Date Set to Block My Participation in Aba Protest, Claims Sowore”

Human rights advocate and previous presidential contender, Omoyele Sowore, has asserted that his trial was intentionally scheduled for the same day as a forthcoming demonstration in Aba to hinder his participation in the rally.

Sowore conveyed this assertion in a post shared on his verified X account on Friday, where he detailed the situation surrounding his absence from the court session involving the Department of State Services (DSS).

As per his account, when he and his legal representatives reached the Federal High Court on March 5, 2026, the presiding judge was unavailable.

“Upon our arrival at the Federal High Court on March 5, 2026, the judge was missing, and his registrar set March 24 as the subsequent date,” he stated.

He further noted that disagreements subsequently emerged among the parties concerned in the case, leading his attorneys to formally seek a new court date.

“Since the parties couldn’t reach a consensus, our lawyers sent a request for a new date,” Sowore remarked.

Nevertheless, the activist asserted that the scenario shifted after the DSS reportedly discovered his intention to travel to Aba for the #FreeNnamdiKanu demonstration.

“As soon as the DSS learned we were proceeding to Aba for the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, the hearing was abruptly scheduled for the same day to impede my attendance at the significant rally,” he stated.

Sowore characterized the occurrence as intentional, asserting that the motive behind the new hearing date was evident.

“The strategies are transparent,” he wrote.

In spite of the situation, the activist maintained that the campaign would persist.

“Nothing can conquer an idea whose moment has arrived,” he concluded.
