Three Bandits and Two Vigilantes Dead After Gunfight in Sokoto Community



A firearm confrontation has resulted in the deaths of three lawbreakers and two community defenders following an assault on Bargaja village, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, during the early hours of Sunday.

The criminals, as per an informant, infiltrated the village around 1:30 a.m., utilizing a peripheral route, with some assailants concealed in trees adjacent to the village graveyard, while others stealthily entered a residence on the outskirts, engaging the defenders watching over the area.

The informant clarified that one defender was slain at the onset of the skirmish before the others retaliated, culminating in the elimination of three lawbreakers.

He articulated that “The assailants subsequently chased another defender who was sheltering in a residence until they succeeded in killing him. The two defenders who lost their lives were recognized as Umar Ibrahim and Abubakar Abdullahi.”

The criminals reportedly utilized a donkey to flee with the deceased and discarded their motorcycles some distance away to evade detection.

The occurrence instigated alarm in the community, prompting some inhabitants to attempt an escape, but community leaders, including the village chief and security commander intervened to reassure the villagers.

DSP Ahmad Rufai, the police spokesperson confirmed that the force is aware of the assault and the casualties noted.
