Mercy Nnenda Chinwo was born on September 5, 1990. She came into the world as one of five children in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. Mercy faced the tragedy of losing her father at a young age and had to provide for herself and her siblings. As a result, she took her music career seriously from the outset.

Chinwo began in the children’s choir at the age of 8. Later, she moved to the adult choir and took on the position of music director at her local church. She also lent her vocal talents to gospel music artists such as Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Buchi, Chris Morgan, and Preye. Eventually, she competed in musical contests until she encountered Nigerian Idol. Ultimately, she achieved fame as the champion of season 2 of this Nigerian talent show.

In 2015, she released her debut single Testimony (2015) followed by Igwe (2016). On February 20, 2018, Mercy launched her inaugural studio album The Cross: My Gaze.
