The African Union set to reward CSOs involved in peace and security



The African Union is honoring Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) engaged in Youth, Women, Peace, and Security to advance and advocate for common African stances on matters pertinent to the continent and its inhabitants.

The award seeks to recognize the vital role that civil society has played in the execution of the WPS agenda.

This endeavor aligns with the aims of the African Union, which encompass creating a society centered around its people and enacting Agenda 2063 for collective prosperity and welfare, unity, and integration, as well as a continent of liberated citizens and realms where the potential of women and youth is completely fulfilled.

A total of six (6) laureates will be recognized for their considerable support of the WPS and YPS agendas within their nation or community. To qualify, candidates must demonstrate their impactful contributions through extraordinary projects or activities in the following domains:

The prevention of sexual and gender-based violence, along with safeguarding women and youth in conditions of conflict;

Preventing, transforming, resolving conflicts, and enhancing gender integration within peace processes;

A comprehensive strategy toward conflict prevention, resolution, and peacebuilding;

Enhancing the effective and meaningful participation of women and youth in the peace process;

Reconciliation, resource management, economic regeneration, improved living standards, reintegration of conflicting factions, etc. are all aspects of inclusive stabilization and peacebuilding.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who satisfy specific criteria, such as nominees who have made an exceptional impact on promoting the WPS or JPS agenda through collaboration, leadership, or creativity, will be assessed. With their courage and dedication, the winners have inspired others.

Community: Nominees have been active in their communities, and their achievements have facilitated decision-making alongside peace and security initiatives.

CSOs qualified for this award include:

Civil society organizations addressing WPS and YPS agenda matters
Gender-focused civil society organizations
Networks operated by or for women
Networks led by or for youth
Local/proximity organizations
Think tanks and research institutes concentrating on WPS and JPS matters
