The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University branch, has ultimately halted its indefinite strike action, providing relief to both students and personnel of the institution.
The strike, which commenced on February 18, 2026, was terminated after a fruitful agreement between the union, its non-academic counterparts, and the Taraba State Government.
Chairperson of ASUU at the university, Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave, verified the news on Wednesday, indicating that the resolution was achieved following effective negotiations.
He mentioned that both academic and non-academic employees had previously accepted a N500 million proposal from Governor Agbu Kefas to settle the industrial conflict.
“Indeed, the strike is officially suspended. We have successfully finalized a favorable agreement with the state government this afternoon, and the indefinite strike action that began on February 18 is hereby suspended,” Mbave stated.
He praised Governor Kefas and other parties involved for their contributions to ensuring the resumption of educational activities at Taraba State University.
Mbave, nevertheless, urged the state government to stay devoted to the conditions of the agreement to prevent further interruptions to the academic schedule.
The suspension of the strike is anticipated to facilitate the immediate recommencement of lectures and regular academic undertakings at the university.
