Phil Campbell (born Philip Anthony Campbell on May 7, 1961, and died March 13, 2026) was a Welsh guitarist, songwriter, and musician best known for his 31 years as lead guitarist in the legendary heavy metal band Motörhead, from 1984 until the group ended after Lemmy Kilmister’s death in 2015. Known as “Wizzö” to fans and bandmates, Campbell brought technical skill, speed, and melody to Motörhead’s energetic sound during the band’s most successful years.
After Motörhead ended in 2015, Campbell started Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons in 2016 with his three sons. The band released several albums that mixed hard rock, metal, and classic styles. After his death at age 64 in March 2026, fans, former bandmates, and the metal community shared many tributes.
