The Flying Eagles were ousted from the current FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland following a 2-1 loss to the resilient Senegalese squad. The Flying Eagles suffered a 2-1 defeat to fellow Africans Senegal in a Round of 16 encounter held on Monday night. Paul Aigbogun’s team went into halftime trailing by two goals, as Amadou Sagna and Ibrahima Niane scored for the Young Terranga Lions. Aniekeme Okon netted one for Nigeria five minutes after the interval, but they could not find the net again. Senegal will now compete against the victor of the match between Japan and South Korea in the quarterfinals.

2022 World Cup: Amnesty, human rights groups call on FIFA, Qatar to compensate migrant workers

Fewer than ten days prior to the commencement of the World Cup in Qatar, Amnesty International has urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to commit to a compensation plan for the migrant laborers who built the tournament’s radiant stadiums. Amnesty, alongside 24 additional organizations, including Human Rights Watch, reached out to Infantino in May imploring him to establish a program to tackle “mistreatment” that workers have faced. As per the groups, numerous migrant laborers have encountered widespread labor violations and exploitation, most of whom hail from South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa.
