Two shot, one dead as police clash with Shi’ite protesters at National Assembly

One person has been left during as the Nigerian Police Force clashed with Shi’ite protesters at the gate of the National Assembly. The Shi’ites were heading to the National Assembly to protest the continual detention of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheik Elzakzaky. Elzakzaky had been granted bail by a court but the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has refused to release him citing security reasons. The protesters clashed with the police at 1:15pm on Tuesday. The police were already stationed at the gate of the National Assembly waiting for them. Two persons were shot in the course of the protest but the body of a boy around 15-years old was seen being carted away by the Shi’ites.

Breaking: Fire razes Kogi Assembly building

Flames have destroyed the Kogi State House of Assembly building in Lokoja, the capital of the State. Reports indicate that the early morning blaze severely damaged the flooring of the structure via the ceiling of the Chamber. As per PUNCH, an anonymous source mentioned that he suspected an explosion, but could not identify who might be culpable. The Assembly's Speaker, Mathew Kolawole, expressed his belief that it may be an act of sabotage. Nevertheless, Kolawole was unable to specify the potential origin of the suspected sabotage.
