
Personnel of the Nigerian Army have thwarted terrorist operations and retrieved an AK-47 rifle during distinct missions in Katsina State.
This update was included in a post shared on X on Monday by security expert, Zagazola Makama.
As per the report, the missions occurred in Kankara and Malumfashi Local Government Areas, where personnel confronted suspected terrorists at various sites.
In Kankara, soldiers from the 17 Brigade operating from Forward Operating Base Mabai reportedly encountered suspected terrorists during a combat patrol along the Kankara-Mabai Road at around 7:45 a.m. on March 15.
The confrontation transpired near the Ruwan Lafia crossing point, where the personnel faced the assailants in a gunfight, compelling them to retreat. The fleeing suspects abandoned a motorcycle, which was subsequently seized by the soldiers.
In a different operation in Malumfashi Local Government Area, soldiers acted on intelligence regarding terrorist activities at Ruwan Sanyi Village at about 11:10 p.m. on March 14.
Upon arrival, the troops engaged the terrorists, who escaped with possible gunshot injuries, as blood traces were observed in the vicinity.
During a subsequent search, the soldiers retrieved an AK-47 rifle loaded with 17 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Security sources indicated that troops have continued to exert control over the affected regions to avert further assaults and restrict the terrorists’ mobility.
