The Director-General of the Yemi Osinbajo Campaign Organization, Senator Kabiru Gaya, revealed that three Presidential contenders from the All Progressive Congress, APC, have stepped down in support of the Vice-President just hours prior to the commencement of voting at the APC National Convention in Eagles Square, Abuja.
However, Gaya did not unveil the three contenders, simply stating that former Senate President Ken Nnamani, who withdrew on Monday, did so as a gesture of respect for Osinbajo.
While speaking to Channels Television, the senator further claimed that the lineup of APC Presidential nominees has been shrunk to merely two – Osinbajo and former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State.
NAIJATAB NEWS had earlier reported that APC governors from the northern region submitted five names of southern presidential candidates to President Muhammadu Buhari for appraisal.
The five individuals were recognized as Tinubu, Osinbajo, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, his Ebonyi State counterpart, Dave Umahi; and the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
Nonetheless, Gaya, who represents the Kano-South senatorial district, affirmed that the list has now been reduced to two.
Gaya stated, “We have Vice-President Osinbajo and Bola Tinubu. I am aware that some contenders have withdrawn in favor of Osinbajo. Nnamani and two others have stepped aside for Osinbajo.”
