“Powering the Future: China’s Ambitious Climate Alliance with Nigeria”

The Chinese administration, via its Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has conveyed its dedication to fostering environmentally friendly progress and enhancing climate collaboration with Nigeria.

In a policy declaration titled “Shared Future, Shared Journey: Constructing an Eco-Friendly Modernization Together,” the ambassador emphasized that striking a balance between economic advancement and ecological preservation is a crucial worldwide concern for sustainable development.

He noted that China, being the foremost developing country globally, has achieved significant strides in green advancement while offering solutions and knowledge for international environmental governance.

He pointed out that the recently held “Two Sessions” in China approved the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan and an Ecological and Environmental Code, both of which set a foundation for high-caliber economic growth and a comprehensive shift towards environmentally sustainable progress.

“The plan promotes accelerating the green transition of economic and social advancement and actively participating in global climate governance,” Yu articulated, further highlighting that it reinforces commitments under international accords such as the Paris Agreement.

He elaborated that China has integrated ecological progress into its national development strategy, implementing actions to combat pollution, enhance forest coverage, and promote conservation. He indicated that the country contributes roughly a quarter of the world’s newly established green areas and has consistently made headway in mitigating desertification.

The ambassador also underscored China’s role in renewable energy, pointing out that it has created the world’s largest renewable energy network and leads internationally in solar and wind power capacity.

“We supply over 80 percent of the globe’s photovoltaic components and 70 percent of wind energy equipment,” he remarked, portraying China as both a champion and a proactive implementer of climate initiatives.

On the topic of global cooperation, Yu stated that China remains a staunch supporter of multilateral approaches and South-South collaborations, particularly through initiatives like the Belt and Road, which promotes green development among partner countries.

He also pointed out the growing collaboration between China and Africa regarding environmental sustainability, which includes clean energy projects, desertification control, and agricultural innovations. He cited the use of China’s Three-North Shelterbelt model in Africa’s Great Green Wall Initiative, along with the deployment of Juncao technology and renewable energy initiatives across the continent.

“Through these tangible efforts, China and Africa are demonstrating solidarity and shared advancement for the Global South,” he remarked.

Shifting focus to Nigeria, the envoy described the country as a crucial partner in climate action and regional green development, stressing the importance of intensified cooperation.

“China is ready to collaborate with Nigeria to strengthen policy dialogues, share governance experiences, and deepen partnerships in clean energy, disaster risk mitigation, desertification control, and green finance,” Yu asserted.

He further noted that both countries could come together to promote environmental sustainability and long-term development while affirming their bilateral relationship.

The ambassador reiterated China’s commitment to pursuing green, low-carbon, and high-quality development, expressing hope that global collaboration would lead to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
