
Delta State Police Command has apprehended Chief Omorede Sunday, the coordinator of the Oramudu Festival in Ozoro Community, Delta State, along with four others, following allegations of young women being sexually abused and mistreated during the event.
The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, denounced the purported sexual abuse and mistreatment of young women, cautioning that acts of sexual violence are illegal, inhumane, and represent a serious infringement on the basic rights and dignity of victims.
He has thus mandated an urgent investigation into the occurrence.
A statement from Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, mentioned, “CP Aina Adesola has directed that the matter be promptly referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiry.”
“Tactical and investigative resources have been appropriately deployed with a clear instruction to locate, detain, and ensure the prosecution of all individuals deemed responsible.”
The Command encourages members of the public, particularly victims and witnesses, to step forward with any information that may assist ongoing investigations.
According to him, “All information provided will remain strictly confidential and handled with the utmost professionalism.”
CP Adesola additionally urged residents of the state to stay calm, alert, and law-abiding, while assuring that the Command is fully dedicated to safeguarding lives, protecting the rights of all citizens, and maintaining public order.
The Delta State Police Command entirely condemns this situation and guarantees that all those implicated in the abhorrent act will be apprehended and prosecuted according to the law.
