
The Niger State Police Command has apprehended eight individuals related to motorcycle larcenies, deceit, and other unlawful acts within the state.
As indicated by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, information gathered on 6th March 2026 directed the police to a suspected criminal hideout along Jebba Road in Mokwa.
He elaborated that on 8th March at approximately 5:30 pm, a patrol unit led by the Divisional Police Officer of Mokwa detained 35-year-old Yahaya Alh. Nma and seized three Bajaj motorcycles along with one TVS motorcycle believed to be misappropriated.
The PRO revealed that further inquiry resulted in the apprehension of three additional suspects: Abdullahi Usman (35), Idris Mohammed (40), and Mohammed Ndako (27).
He indicated that they allegedly admitted to pilfering several motorcycles within Mokwa.
The police stated that measures are underway to capture other members of the gang and to retrieve more stolen motorcycles.
In distinct cases, Abiodun unveiled that 42-year-old Yahaya Mohamed of Bayagi, Bida, was taken into custody for masquerading as a police officer to swindle phone repair outlets.
The Police spokesperson mentioned that Mohammed reportedly procured phone screen repairs without making payments, totaling #32,500 in two separate events earlier this year. Investigations are ongoing to pinpoint more victims.
Furthermore, he disclosed that on 3rd March, Abubakar Lawal of Dzukogi, Bida, was arrested for stealing a goat from a sawmill vicinity, adding that the perpetrator acknowledged his plan to sell the animal.
He further mentioned that in Suleja, two suspects, Abraham Pius Agada and Moses Ochapa, both hailing from Masaka, Nasarawa State, were apprehended on 6th March for utilizing counterfeit debit alerts to unlawfully acquire five 1-litre engine oil containers worth approximately #20,000.
The suspects confessed to executing similar scams in Kefi, Nasarawa, and Suleja. The police recovered a Toyota Corolla (registration ASH 972 SK) and over a dozen engine oil containers obtained fraudulently, he added.
The pair were brought before the court on 11th March and held in a correctional facility.
