Phil Rosenthal: Early Life
Philip Rosenthal was born on the 27th of January, 1960, in Queens, New York. He was raised in a Jewish household and spent most of his formative years in New York. He attended Clarkstown North High School, where he was actively involved in the school’s drama club.
He graduated from Clarkstown North in 1977. Following high school, he enrolled at Hofstra University, graduating in 1981. In the early 1980s, he was an actor based in New York City before redirecting his career towards production.

Rosenthal’s most prominent commercial achievement and longest-running endeavor was the sitcom ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’. The series was co-produced by Ray Romano. His spouse portrayed the character of Amy MacDougall-Barone, the intermittent girlfriend (wife from season 7) of Robert Barone (Brad Garrett) on the show.
He penned the book ‘You’re Lucky You’re Funny: How Life Becomes a Sitcom,’ which was released in 2006. He directed President Bill Clinton in a video for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Rosenthal co-authored the 9/11 telethon ‘America: A tribute to Heroes’.
Rosenthal created and directed a documentary for Sony Pictures titled ‘Exporting Raymond’, which illustrates his attempts to adapt Everybody Loves Raymond for Russian television.
