Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi (8 May 1944 – 17 March 2023) was a Nigerian politician and attorney. From 2018 to 2022, he served as the deputy governor of Ekiti State.

Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi Professional Journey

Bisi Egbeyemi was the President of the Law Students Association at the University of Ife during the 1978-1979 academic year. He held the position of Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in Ekiti State from 2002 to 2003 and was also the President of the Physical Education Students Association at the Lagos College of Education in Akoka Lagos from 1974 to 1975. From 2010 to 2014, he directed Owena Motels in Ondo State and Odua Investment Company Limited.

In the 2017 Ekiti gubernatorial election, he ran alongside Governor Kayode Fayemi under the All Progressive Congress, achieving victory. The decision of Kayode Fayemi to appoint him as his Deputy was subject to controversy, with many claiming he sought the position. Nonetheless, he expressed that his party selected him due to the confidence that mentioning his name in Ado Ekiti and Ekiti at large would garner support.

On July 17, 2020, he refuted an impeachment rumor after a media outlet reported that the Governor planned to remove him from office. He labeled the rumor as “fabrications of falsehood” and “malicious lies” aimed at innocent individuals.

Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi Demise

At the age of 79, Egbeyemi passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning (18th March 2023) at a well-known Multisystem Hospital in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.

Egbeyemi was born on May 8, 1944, in Ado-Ekiti.

Prior to his political career, he practiced as an attorney.

From 1992 to 1993, he served as Chairman of the Ado Ekiti Local Government Area, and from 2018 to 2022, he was the Deputy to Governor Kayode Fayemi.

The specifics regarding the cause of his death remained unclear at the time of this report; however, a close associate who collaborated with him as one of his key officers disclosed that he succumbed in a private healthcare facility.

Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi – Deputy Governor of Ekiti State

Kayode Fayemi selected Bisi Egbeyemi as his running mate for the APC gubernatorial election in Ekiti State in 2018. Both Kayode Fayemi and Bisi Egbeyemi were officially announced as winners of the Ekiti State Governorship election on July 15, 2018.

They secured 197,459 votes, defeating the PDP, which garnered 178,121 votes. On October 16, 2018, he was inaugurated as the deputy governor of Ekiti State in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
