The campaign organization of former Osun State Deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has verified that the legal proceedings contesting the disqualification of numerous gubernatorial aspirants by the All Progressives Congress has been dismissed.
In a declaration issued in Osogbo on Thursday, and endorsed by its Director General, Ajibola Famurewa, the organization clarified that the case was terminated following interventions from distinguished leaders of the ruling party.
The statement revealed that the lawsuit had previously been lodged at the Federal High Court in Osogbo after the party’s screening committee disqualified seven out of eight aspirants in advance of the APC gubernatorial primary in Osun State.
According to the campaign organization, “the legal proceedings, marked FHC/OS/CS/261/2025 – Senator Iyiola Omisore v. APC & ANR, was initiated to evaluate the validity of the committee’s ruling.”
Famurewa stated “the lawsuit questioned whether the party had the power to impose conditions for the qualification or disqualification of aspirants beyond those indicated in the Electoral Act 2022 and the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.”
The originating summons, dated December 9, 2025, had requested “the Federal High Court to ascertain if the APC could legitimately disqualify Omisore despite his purported fulfillment of the constitutional requirements to contend in the gubernatorial primary.”
Among the remedies sought was “a declaration that the party could not legitimately exclude him from engaging in the primary election having met the demands of Sections 177 and 182 of the Constitution.”
The lawsuit also sought an order annulled the alleged disqualification and mandating the APC to acknowledge Omisore as an aspirant in its gubernatorial primary in anticipation of the state election.
The former deputy governor petitioned the court to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognizing any primary carried out by the APC to generate a candidate for the gubernatorial election in Osun State.
Famurewa elaborated that “the case gained significant attention after details from the court’s cause list for March 2 circulated on social media, where the matter was listed as the eleventh case scheduled for hearing before Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi.”
However, he noted that the case was subsequently dismissed following discussions and appeals from senior party officials.
“Upon the intervention of the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, and other reputable leaders, Senator Omisore opted to honor the request to comply with the party’s resolution,” the statement indicated.
The campaign organization called on APC members and the public to dismiss claims suggesting that the case was still unresolved, emphasizing the significance of unity within the party ahead of the upcoming gubernatorial election slated for August 15 in Osun State.
