In the midst of the dispute following the release of ambassadorial appointments, a political analyst and national security expert, Kunle Fagbemi, asserts that Nigeria is functioning within a flawed system that is causing significant embarrassment.
Fagbemi made these comments on Friday during a live televised interview on Arise Television, which was observed by NAIJATAB.
He remarked that the Federal Government is unable to announce the names and assignments of ambassador-designates until they have completed the induction training.
Furthermore, he mentioned that the information regarding such appointments should be issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, not the presidency.
“We are engaging in ineffective diplomatic procedures; the management of Foreign Affairs and the presidency of the Nigerian state. We have warned and appealed to the current Special Adviser on Information, Bayo Onanuga, to be cautiously aware of how he communicates his statements.
“One of the comments that emerged from him, which has further aggravated and intensified the matter, relates to the rule that mandates not to publicize the names and assignments of any ambassador designate until that individual has completed the induction training.
“Regrettably, he proceeded with that, and in the same statement issued on behalf of the presidency of the Nigerian state, he highlighted that they had only secured agreements regarding two of those ambassador-designates.
“This itself served as a signal to other stakeholders, indicating that they too might choose not to perform the necessary actions to grant the agreement that would permit these individuals to arrive at their duty assignments,” he stated.
