The Taraba State Mobile Court on Environmental Safeguarding, Public Welfare and Prohibition of Deforestation over the weekend seized several trucks purportedly involved in unlawful mining operations along the Wukari–Chinkai route, in the Wukari local government area of the state.
The enforcement action, executed on Friday, as reported by NAIJATAB, ensued after a patrol by officials from the mobile court along the Wukari roadway.
During the initiative, it was reported that officials intercepted numerous trucks transporting coal and other solid minerals believed to have been extracted unlawfully.
An official who informed our reporter that the vehicles were promptly confiscated mentioned that the offenders were hastily tried according to the stipulations of the executive order governing environmental protection and mining operations in the state.
Officials remarked that the operation acts as a significant notification that Executive Order No. 5 remains entirely in effect and will be rigorously enforced throughout Taraba State.
Authorities also urged residents and participants in the mining industry to abstain from partaking in illegal mining, cautioning that offenders would encounter legal repercussions.
They highlighted that unlawful mining has extensive environmental repercussions, including land degradation, threats to human existence, disruption of food security, and heightened risks to public safety.
The state government reiterated its dedication to protecting the environment and ensuring the sustainable utilization of natural resources for the benefit of both current and future generations.
