K-Ci was born Cedric Renard Hailey on September 2, 1969, in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a soul/R&B artist and songwriter. K-Ci is the older sibling of JoJo Hailey, a member of the duo K-Ci and JoJo. He is also the elder stepbrother of Calvin Richardson, who is a neo-soul vocalist, and cousin of R&B singer Fantasia Barrino and Dave Hollister.

He serves as the primary vocalist for the group Jodeci and is the secondary lead vocalist for the R&B duo K-Ci and JoJo. K-Ci’s performance style, characterized by a soulful, gospel-influenced rasp, is inspired by soul artist Bobby Womack.

Womack served as a muse for K-Ci, while also inspiring another R&B artist, Sisqo (Mark Andrews), from the late 1990s group Dru Hill. However, Dru Hill and Sisqo were initially accused of copying his style rather than drawing inspiration from it for their success.

K-Ci: Personal Life

Blige’s album, titled “What’s the 411?” Mary J. Blige frequently toured with the group Jodeci. Their romance ended in 1997, with Mary J. Blige reporting that their split was due to domestic violence and alleged substance abuse.

In 1993, K-Ci, along with DeVante Swing, a fellow member of Jodeci, was involved in an incident with a woman he met at a bar. The woman later pressed charges against the pair, claiming K-Ci sexually assaulted her by groping her while DeVante held a gun to her head.

In 2001, K-Ci faced legal issues after being charged with indecent exposure following an incident during a performance in Los Angeles where he fondled and exposed himself. K-Ci pleaded not guilty, paid a fine, and was sentenced to probation.

K-Ci currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he lives with his mother and younger brother JoJo in a grand mansion that was showcased on MTV Cribs back in 2000.
