China: Missing schoolboy died by suicide – Police

On Thursday, regional authorities in Jiangxi Province, eastern China, declared at a press briefing that a schoolboy who went missing and was subsequently found deceased took his own life.

Hu, a pupil at Jiangxi’s Zhiyuan High School, disappeared on October 14, 2022, and his remains weren’t uncovered until January 28.

The youth took his own life by hanging himself, as per case investigations, according to Hu Mansong, deputy chief of the Jiangxi Provincial Department of Public Security.

Prior to establishing the cause of the boy’s death, local law enforcement and a collaborative task force executed inquiries, interviews, an autopsy, as well as the examination and identification of forensic evidence under the on-site supervision of reputable domestic crime scene analysts, Hu Mansong stated.

The inquiry revealed that the site of the remains was the same location where the suicide occurred, noted Hu Mansong, who added that there were no indications of a struggle or dragging present at the scene.

He also mentioned that a pen voice recorder belonging to the boy was located at the site and submitted to the Ministry of Public Security for evaluation.

He noted that the boy distinctly voiced suicidal thoughts in two audio recordings.

According to him, analysis confirmed that the audio recordings were not artificially fabricated or modified.

The official mentioned that psychology specialists determined that the boy was reserved and gentle in temperament, exhibited a tendency toward isolation, and was greatly concerned about others’ perceptions.

He also remarked that the investigations uncovered the boy’s lack of emotional support and avenues for expressing his feelings.

After enrolling at Zhiyuan High School, the boy dealt with psychological instability due to unsatisfactory academic performance and socializing pressure during adolescence, he mentioned.

This led to the emergence of physical and emotional disorders, which ultimately resulted in suicidal inclinations, he added. (Xinhua/NAN)
