Charlie Rose completed his education at Henderson High School and Duke University. He aimed to finish his pre-med studies ahead of schedule; however, he developed a passion for politics while interning in the office of Everet Jordan, a North Carolina Senator.
In 1964, Rose received a bachelor’s degree in history. He was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Order at Duke. In 1968, he earned a Doctor of Laws degree from Duke University School of Law. During his time at Duke, Rose met his charming spouse, Mary.

Charlie Rose’s career has been thriving. He once freelanced for the BBC. While employed at a bank in New York in 1972, Rose secured a weekend position as a reporter for WPIX-TV.
In 1974, his fame began to rise after Bill Moyers appointed him as the editor-in-chief responsible for the Bill Moyers Journal. From 1984 to 1990, Rose contributed to CBS News as the presenter of CBS Nightwatch (the network’s first late-night news program), often showcasing one-on-one interviews with notable figures in a style akin to his later PBS show.
