The fractures in the fold of the Plateau State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have continued to expand after a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, conducted a Congress on Tuesday, during which Peter Tongshep was chosen as a rival chairman of the party.
It is noteworthy that on October 25, 2025, another faction of the PDP loyal to Tanimu Turaki, in its own Congress held at the WAYE Foundation, Doi-Du, Jos, selected Chief Raymond Dabo as its new State Chairman, along with 38 additional members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) to guide the party’s activities toward success in the 2027 General Elections.
On Tuesday, however, the Wike-aligned faction, during its consensus Congress, opted for Tongshep and 38 other executive members to manage the party’s affairs.
The Congress, which occurred under stringent security measures with a substantial deployment of personnel to maintain order and safeguard the participants, was overseen by a seven-member delegation from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The Congress included the presence of former Sports Ministers Damishi Sango and Musa Azi, Sarpiya Danyaro, Aminu Zang, along with BoT Members, Timothy Golu, and Rt. Hon. Johnbul Shekarau, among other notable party personalities and stakeholders of the Wike-led PDP faction.
After the Congress, Dr. Samaila Rukuba, who was appointed as the spokesman of the faction, characterized the event as highly peaceful and systematic, asserting that with the completion of the state congresses, all attention is directed toward the National Convention scheduled for March 29 in Abuja.
Rukuba urged all well-meaning PDP members in Plateau to realign themselves towards reconciliation and the endeavor of reclaiming the party’s lost mandate.
