Senegal Stands Firm: AFCON Trophy Remains in Their Grip After CAF Crowns Morocco
Senegal is declining to return the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, trophy.
This comes after a ruling from the Confederation of African Football, CAF, to revoke their championship title.
CAF has proclaimed the 2025 AFCON final a forfeit and granted hosts Morocco a 3-0 victory.
The football organization supported Morocco’s assertion that Senegal’s exit in stoppage time meant they had violated the rules of the game.
Head coach of the Teranga Lions, Pape Thiaw, instructed his players to leave the field after the hosts were awarded a penalty for the last kick of the game.
As reported by the UK Sun, in spite of CAF’s decision, Senegal is unwilling to return the trophy, labeling the ruling as “unjust, unprecedented, and intolerable.”
