The Department of State Services (DSS) has clarified the reasons behind the apprehension of Tukur Mamu, the principal negotiator between armed groups and captives of the Kaduna-bound train, by its agents at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.
NAIJATAB NEWS had previously reported that Mamu was seized along with his family members in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, and subsequently transported back to Nigeria.
Mamu indicated that he was taken into custody and held at the Cairo International Airport for a duration of 24 hours while traveling to Saudi Arabia for lesser Hajj.
The DSS personnel picked up the Kaduna-based publisher and his relatives immediately upon their arrival at the Kano airport this afternoon and transferred them to Abuja.
The DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, who verified Tukur’s apprehension in a statement, remarked that the bandits’ negotiator was detained as he was a “person of interest.”
Afunanya elaborated that Mamu has several significant questions to address concerning security issues in the nation.
The statement asserted, “The Department of State Services has been inundated with inquiries regarding the arrest or lack thereof of Tukur Mamu, the self-proclaimed Kaduna Train hostage negotiator.
“This is to affirm that Mamu, being a person of interest, was intercepted by Nigeria’s international partners in Cairo, Egypt on 6th September 2022 while en route to Saudi Arabia.
“He was returned to the nation today, 7th September 2022 and placed in the Service’s custody.
“This action was taken following a request from Nigeria’s Military, Law Enforcement, and Intelligence Community to their international partners to bring Mamu back to the country to respond to vital questions regarding ongoing inquiries related to certain security issues in various regions of the country.
“The public may wish to note that the law will duly take its course.”
