Cowher began his coaching profession at 28 as an assistant for the Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs under the iconic Coach Marty Schottenheimer. He even accepted a lower salary to pursue coaching over the potential earnings he could have made with the Eagles in 1985, as he envisioned his future in coaching.
