Atiku Abubakar GCON was born on 25 November 1946. He is a politician and entrepreneur from Nigeria who held the role of Olusegun Obasanjo’s vice president of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007. In 1990, 1997, and then again in 1998, he contested for governor of Adamawa State and emerged victorious. Afterward, he served as Olusegun Obasanjo’s running mate in the 1999 presidential election and was re-elected in 2003. Since his initial foray in 1989, Atiku Abubakar has previously sought the presidency of Nigeria five times without success: in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019.
He contested in the Social Democratic Party’s 1993 presidential primary but was defeated by Baba Gana Kingibe and Moshood Abiola. In the 2007 presidential election, he finished third behind Umaru Yar’Adua of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP. During the 2011 presidential election, he participated in the People’s Democratic Party’s presidential primaries but lost to the then-incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.
Before the 2015 presidential election, he joined the All Progressives Congress in 2014. He competed in the presidential primaries but was defeated by Muhammadu Buhari. He re-entered the Peoples Democratic Party in 2017 and ran as its presidential nominee in the 2019 election, losing again to the sitting President Muhammadu Buhari.

Career: – Abubakar dedicated twenty years to the Nigeria Customs Service, eventually attaining the position of Deputy Director, the second-highest role at that time. He resigned in April 1989 to focus fully on business and politics. In 1974, he applied for and received a loan of 31,000 nairas to build his first residence in Yola, which he later leased out. He purchased an additional plot and built a second residence utilizing the rental income.
While employed as a customs officer at the Apapa Ports, Abubakar made his most crucial business decision. On November 25, 2006, he announced his intention to contest for the presidency. He was appointed as the Action Congress’s presidential nominee on December 20, 2006. (AC).
