Forces of Operation FANSAN YANMA in conjunction with local vigilante groups known as Askara, have incapacitated a bandit during a thwarted attempt to kidnap students at the College of Science and Health Technology Tsafe, Zamfara state.
This was disclosed in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, an expert in counter-insurgency and security in the Lake Chad region.
Makama stated that the event transpired late at night when suspected armed bandits tried to breach the school grounds in Tsafe with the evident aim of abducting students.
According to sources, troops of Operation Fansan Yanma, in collaboration with local security volunteers (Askara), promptly reacted to the danger and engaged the assailants in a firefight.
Makama indicated that during the clash, one of the bandits was incapacitated while the others escaped into adjacent foliage.
He also pointed out that owing to the darkness and the urgency of the operation, the troops and local security volunteers could not immediately retrieve the weapon belonging to the neutralised suspect.
“Troops have since augmented patrols in the vicinity to avert further attacks and reassure both residents and students of the institution.
“The swift reaction by the troops and the local vigilantes averted what could have been a significant kidnapping incident targeting the college students.
“Bandit assaults and attempted abductions of students have been a persistent security issue in regions of northwestern Nigeria, leading to enhanced cooperation between security forces and community-based vigilante organizations,” Makama remarked.
