Alex Otti: Winner of the Abia Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Alex Otti, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, as the victor of the governorship election in Abia state.

This announcement came after the conclusion of the collation of remaining results from Obingwa LGA.

Otti secured 175,467 votes, surpassing Okey Ahiwe, the candidate from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 88,529 votes.

On Monday, armed individuals disrupted the electoral commission’s office in Obingwa LGA, halting the result collation in Abia.

The assailants held INEC officials captive before their release, leading the electoral commission to call for a reassessment of the procedure.

At the time the collation was interrupted, Otti was reportedly ahead by over 80,000 votes.

This win marks the LP’s inaugural triumph in the nationwide governorship election held on March 18.

The party also claimed victory in the presidential elections across all five southeastern states — Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, and Ebonyi.
