A previous federal legislator, Shehu Sani has criticized the Confederation of African Football, CAF, for revoking Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON title.
CAF declared on Tuesday evening that Morocco is now the champion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The CAF Appeal Board decided in favor of Morocco, stating that Senegal had forfeited the AFCON final by leaving the field during the concluding match.
Consequently, Morocco was granted a 3–0 walkover victory.
This ruling supports Morocco’s appeal following the tumultuous incidents during the match.
Morocco had remained on the field after the center referee awarded them a contentious penalty, while Senegalese players, driven by their coach, protested by exiting the pitch.
Only Sadio Mane, the team’s captain, stayed on the field and later convinced others to return and resume the match.
Morocco missed the penalty, and Senegal went on to clinch the game with a solitary goal.
Fuming over CAF’s ruling, Sani posted on X, “Senegal secured the AFCON on the field but was deprived by CAF in the Boardroom; that’s unacceptable and a perilous precedent in African football.
“The fact that the Senegalese squad exited in protest and returned to play until the final whistle does not justify this afterthought daylight robbery. They simply wish to reward Morocco for hosting and losing.”
