CJN Onnoghen absent as 94 Lawyers Arrive CCT Session To Defend him



A group of 94 attorneys, comprising 47 Senior Advocates alongside 47 additional lawyers, is spearheaded by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) and has arrived at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in Abuja to advocate for the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

The CJN is set to be arraigned before the tribunal today, even though he has yet to appear on the tribunal’s grounds.

The proceedings are slated to commence at 10:00 a.m.

Among the Senior Advocates of Nigeria in his defense team who have already taken their seats in anticipation of the proceedings are the Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi, Wole Olanipekun, Chief Chris Uche, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, among others.

On the prosecution’s side, there are five lawyers led by Aliyu Umar SAN.

UPDATE as of 10:30 a.m.:

The trial of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, has begun in his absence.

The CJN faces a six-count charge relating to alleged non-declaration of his assets.

A team of lawyers led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN) represents the CJN, with 47 members being Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
