The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, was missing from today’s proceedings of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (where he has been accused of six counts of failing to declare assets) due to a dental issue.
Clarifying his absence to the three-member Bench of the CCT, his attorney, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), presented a medical document acquired by Onnoghen from the medical facility where he was purportedly receiving care, mentioning that Justice Onnoghen also experienced elevated blood pressure of 410/121.
The tribunal, chaired by Danladi Umar, had decreed on Monday that hearings in the case would occur daily.
It also postponed decisions on two distinct motions submitted by Onnoghen to dispute the authority of the tribunal to adjudicate the allegations against him until final judgment is reached in the case.
However, following the agreement by the prosecution and the suggestion in the medical document that the defendant requires bed rest for 72 hours, the tribunal rescheduled the case to March 18.
