
Just 24 hours post his inauguration, President Muhammadu Buhari is set to depart Abuja on Thursday, May 29, to participate in the OIC summit in Saudi Arabia – The summit is scheduled for Friday, May 31, and aims to deliberate on matters like terrorism and perilous extremism –
The president will also seize the moment to engage with global leaders on the necessity to invest in Nigeria and generate employment opportunities. President Muhammadu Buhari is departing Abuja on Thursday, May 29, for the summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
As per Buhari’s presidential aide, the 14th session of the Summit is slated for Friday, May 31, and will be presided over by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The summit is expected to welcome various heads of state and government representatives from around the globe.
The conference will unfold under the theme: “Makkah al-Mukarramah Summit: Hand in Hand toward the Future” as it endeavors to redirect events in the Islamic sphere.
President Buhari will address the forum on the necessity for member nations to unite and combat terrorism and extremism.
Buhari will also utilize this occasion to discuss the core of Nigeria’s foreign policy, which includes revitalizing the Lake Chad Basin and the significance of investing in Nigeria’s economy for job creation and growth.
On the sidelines, the president will also hold bilateral meetings with global leaders to foster strong partnerships with other nations on shared issues.
Buhari will be accompanied on this journey by Governors Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State, and Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state.
The remainder of the delegation includes Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mustapha Suleiman; Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufa’i Abubakar; Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Dr Isa Ali Pantamii; and Chairman, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Abdullahi Mukthar.
It is worth noting that Nigeria became a member of the OIC in 1986 and has held several significant roles within the organization, including assistant secretary general for economic affairs, among others. President Buhari is anticipated to return to the country on Sunday, June 2.
