
Previous tax advisor, Muhammad Nami, has now been designated by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Chairperson of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS.
The departing FIRS leader, Tunde Fowler, who was appointed in 2015, concluded his term today, December 9, 2019, due to the absence of appointment renewal from the presidency.
The revelation of the new leader has not taken many supporters by surprise, who commended the dismissed leader for his well-utilized tenure.
A statement from the Presidency regarding this matter read;
“Mr. Muhammad, a professional in Tax, Accounting, and Management, armed with prestigious qualifications and licenses from pertinent professional organizations, possesses nearly thirty years of hands-on experience in Auditing, Tax Management, and Advisory, as well as Management services for clientele in the banking, manufacturing, services, and public sectors, including non-profit entities.
He specializes in providing advisory assistance to investors concerning new business establishments and the administration of current enterprises. Additionally, he has consistently delivered outsourced services to clients across the trading, service, and manufacturing sectors of the nation’s economy.
Muhammad Nami studied at Bayero University Kano and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology (1991) and a Master’s in Business (2004), respectively. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, the Institute of Debt Recovery Practitioners of Nigeria, and an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria.
He commenced his career with PFK in 1993 and progressed to a senior Consultant role overseeing Tax management and advisory services. He currently acts as the managing consultant of Manam Professional Services (Chartered Tax Practitioners and Business Advisers) located in Kaduna, Abuja, and Niger State.
Mr. Muhammad has participated and continues to be involved on several companies’ Boards and Statutory Board Audit Committees. In November 2017, he was appointed as a member of the Presidential Committee on Audit of Recovered Stolen Assets by President Buhari.
The Chairman of FIRS, Babatunde Fowler, whose term concluded on Monday, December 9, 2019, is anticipated to transfer responsibilities to the most senior director on the board, who will oversee operations awaiting the senate approval of the new board.
