The representative of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who verified the occurrence, stated that the individual was detained following an unsuccessful endeavor to abduct residents of a home in the area.
Ikoedem indicated that the alleged notorious abductor has been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit of the Command for inquiry and legal action.
She mentioned that the accused and his partners, who were heavily armed, reportedly invaded a residence in the vicinity around 6 a.m., attempting to seize the inhabitants.
According to her, when the suspect and his associates reached the property, they discharged random gunfire to intimidate locals and were attempting to force the iron door open when some residents alerted security forces, who swiftly descended upon the site.
“On seeing the police, the alleged abductors fled into the wilderness, but Muhammed was captured during a search of the bushes while the others escaped,” she remarked.
The Command’s spokesperson stated that the State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has instructed all Divisional Police Officers and tactical leaders to consistently stay vigilant in addressing crime surges in the state.
The individual, who admitted to the offense during a discussion, professed to be a herder from Kwara State but is currently in Edo State for abduction activities.
